It will be a beautiful Western Carolina day today – July 17 – when one of the most popular annual Folkmoot events marches down Main Street, Waynesville: the Parade of Nations! Today!
The parade kicks off around 1 p.m. near Waynesville Town Hall and proceeds down Main Street to a huge part at Haywood County’s Historic Courthouse.
Main Street and the Courthouse are festooned with international flags and all is ready for yet another marvelous parade of international cultures and communities all the while building peace and understand between nations and societies.
It is Folkmoot and the annual celebration began Thursday with a day full of activities, including and especially the annual Friends of Folkmoot Gala and opening performance at the Stompin’ Ground in Maggie Valley. (Scroll below for a video.)
And if the parade is not enough for you – and it won’t be – Folkmoot’s Grand Opening is set for tonight at the Stompin’ Ground. Tickets are available online here or at the box office.
And speaking of tickets, we will be selling them today at the parade, of course. Find our ticket booths in front of the Historic Courthouse and in front of the Haywood County Tourist Development Authority.
And if you buy tickets today during the parade you will automatically be entered in a drawing to win a free t-shirt, hat, or program. Each person who purchases a ticket will have the chance to win one of the three items and winners will be notified by telephone following the 2:30 p.m. drawing.
Don’t miss your chance to win one of our new t-shirts designed with the “Say Hello” and “Say Peace” campaign in mind.
Our commemorative guidebook has information about all of the groups attending Folkmoot, what to do in Waynesville, and much more!
If you win a hat, it could help shade your face from the sun at International Day on Saturday, which will be a day filled with art and festivities and all Folkmoot has to offer and once again fill up Main Street in Waynesville.
