Folkmoot is in full swing, hitting full stride on a grand opening weekend with performance today – Sunday, July 19 – in Asheville, Hickory at Lake Junaluska!
The full ensemble – dancers from Chile, Philippines, Estonia, Puerto Rico, Canada, Ecuador & Philippines – will join together for a 1:30 p.m. matinee performance at the Diana Wortham Theatre in Asheville.
For two evening performances, we split up the troupes with dancers from Chile, Philippines & Estonia traveling to the SALT Block Auditorium in Hickory while dancers from Puerto Rico, Canada, Ecuador & Philippines perform at Lake Junaluska’s Stuart Auditorium for World Friendship Day.
It’s been a hectic, colorful & dazzling, spirited and often raucous opening weekend of cultural exchange and growth, community-building and the advancement of peace around the globe. And we’re just getting started! Folkmoot runs through July 26th with performances scheduled all over Western Carolina. A complete schedule and links to tickets is here. And, of course, none of these festive events would be possible with out our sponsors. See who cares enough to be a sponsor and support these businesses and institutions.
From the Friends of Folkmoot Gala to the Parade of Nations to our Grand Opening to the late-night parties at the Folkmoot Friendship Center, Folkmoot 2015 is proving to be – just as everyone has grown to expect – the greatest party of the summer in the Smoky Mountains!
