Join Folkmoot for an afternoon matinee at Queen Auditorium. Festival matinees include all international cultural groups and offer opportunities for interaction with performers. Without exception, the auditorium is the most intimate performance space of the festival.
Folkmoot is a two-week celebration of world’s cultural heritage through folk music and dance. Held each summer across the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, Folkmoot features special events, parades and workshops with over 200 dancers and musicians from 7 to 9 countries alongide Cherokee and Appalachian performers.
Performers demonstrate cultural heritage through colorful, authentic and original reproduction costumes, lively dance and traditional music.
Folkmoot, a word meaning “meeting of the people,” provides communities all over Western North Carolina the opportunity to build a deeper sense of connection, mutual respect and shared purpose by experiencing other cultures. Dancers from eight nations around the globe will perform at the 36th edition of Folkmoot Festival, July 18-28. Click for information on visiting countries.
