The Folkmoot Gala is the kickoff celebration of the summer festival and is our annual fundraiser supported by the Friends of Folkmoot, sponsors and their guests. The Gala is held outdoors under the big tent in the field adjacent to the Friendship Center and in the Queen Auditorium. Friends will enjoy specialty foods and beverages while cultural performers take the stage for their first appearance at the festival.
Folkmoot is a two-week celebration of world’s cultural heritage through folk music and dance. Held each summer across the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, Folkmoot features special events, parades andworkshops with over 200 dancers and musicians from 7 to 9 countries along with local Cherokee and Appalachian performers.
Performers demonstrate cultural heritage through colorful, authentic and original reproduction costumes, lively dance and traditional music.
