The WCU Bardo Arts Center is pleased to present, The Nile Project.
A collaboration with universities across the state will bring music from 11 countries in east Africa, all connected by the Nile River, to North Carolina for a series of musical celebrations.
 
The Nile & African Identity, Discussion & Music Demonstration with Nile Project Musicians at Folkmoot.

We will explore the ways varying definitions of being “African” have affected Nile history. We will draw from examples of how the world music industry portrays African identity and share how the Nile Project represents a departure from traditionally­ exported African music. This event is free for WCU students, $3 for Haywood County School kids and $5 for the general public.

Appalachian BBQ and Bluegrass @ Folkmoot Friendship Center | Waynesville | North Carolina | United States

Mouth-watering pulled pork, toe-tapping bluegrass music and lots of sweet mountain hospitality awaits those who attend Folkmoot’s Appalachian Friendship Dinner scheduled for Saturday, March 18, 2017.  This annual celebration of mountain food, music and culture will take place from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Folkmoot Friendship Center in Waynesville.

 

Dinner will be catered by Haywood Smokehouse and will feature pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw and dinner rolls. Musical guests include Possum on a Whale, Lillian Chase & the New Potatoes, regional favorites, Whitewater Bluegrass and the award winning Darren Nicholson Band. Dinner will be served in the Folkmoot Cafeteria followed by the bluegrass concert in the Sam Love Queen Auditorium. In the Folkmoot Cafeteria, Elevated Mountain Distilling Company will be on hand to teach some of the history of making moonshine Appalachian culture.
Tickets for this event can be purchased in advance, $25 for adults, $15 for kids, at Folkmoot.org or by calling (828) 452-2997. Parking is available in the back of the Folkmoot building for year-round events.
