May Day at Folkmoot: Western Carolina dance, Scottish music, Mexican food and much more will be part of the line-up!
It’s all on tap Saturday, May 2, at the Folkmoot Friendship Center, 112 Virginia Avenue (the historic Hazelwood School) when Folkmoot USA celebrates May Day and delivers to our community the new vision for a year-round Folkmoot as a center for education, entertainment, cultural exchange, economic opportunities and a beacon for peace and understanding throughout the world.
It’s going to be the party of the spring in Western Carolina and is expected to draw a huge crowd for friendship, celebration, entertainment, food and beverages and just a plain ol’ good time for fiddlin’ around!
The slate of performers is scheduled to kick off at noon. But earlier in the morning, Folkmoot friends will be treated to a silent auction of hand-picked treasures and gifts accumulated over the three decades of Folkmoot as North Carolina’s official folklife festival. The treasures and memorabilia have been carefully selected and itemized by the Friends of Folkmoot organization and will be unique items worthy of becoming family heirlooms.
A tasty array of Mexican cuisine is being prepared by Waynesville’s own Maria Presley, well known chef and former owners of Maria’s Mexican Pueblo.
The party will also see crowned two International Ambassadors, selected from a court of Western Carolina residents with International or family ties. The court – to be named soon – will campaign for the posts of top male and female International Ambassadors. You will know them and they will be in touch with you for your support.
Set your calendar, get the family ready, prepare to come on out May 2 and enjoy the day!
